Tile spacers are small, cross-shaped or T-shaped pieces typically made of plastic that are used in tiling projects to ensure even spacing between tiles. They play a crucial role in achieving a professional, uniform look by helping to maintain consistent gaps (also known as grout lines) between the tiles. These gaps are later filled with grout to seal the tiles and add strength to the overall installation.

 

Consistency and Alignment:

• Tile spacers ensure that the tiles are laid out with precise, even gaps between them. This uniformity is crucial for both the aesthetic appeal and the structural integrity of the tiling job.

Material:

• Most spacers are made of plastic, which is durable and flexible. Some are reusable, while others are designed to be disposable.

Application:

• Spacers are inserted between tiles as you lay them to ensure each tile is the correct distance from the next. They are left in place until the adhesive or mortar sets, and then they are removed before grouting.

Removal:

• Once the tiles are set and the adhesive has dried, the spacers can be easily pulled out, usually by hand or with a pair of pliers. Depending on how they were applied, they can even be grouted over.

UltraTile ProShield provides waterproof protection to backgrounds in
commercial environments, wetrooms, domestic bathrooms, kitchens and
showers and is suitable for both walls and floors prior to tiling. It is a polymer
emulsion based product for use on internal installations only.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Ensure all areas are clean, dry and free from dust or any other contaminating barriers. Remove any flaking or peeling layers. Background surfaces must be free from movement.
New Brickwork, Blockwork and Concrete: Must be fully cured and dry, surface must be reasonably flat.
Gypsum Plaster/Anhydrite Type Floors: Must be completely dry. Ensure the surface is fully cured (with >0.5% moisture) prior to application of UltraTile ProShield.
Timber Walls/Floors, other Boarded Backgrounds: Background must be clean and free from any loose matter and the surface must be sound, dry and flat. Boards should be firmly fixed to supporting joists and free from any excessive or sudden movement. For floorboards, overlay with at least 15mm exterior grade plywood screw fixed at 300mm centres.
Note: Moisture sensitive backgrounds should be protected from moisture
ingress from behind.
APPLICATION
UltraTile ProShield should be applied using a brush or short pile roller to give a continuous thin layer of product at least 0.4mm thick. See application method opposite. Drying time will be extended depending on thickness applied, porosity of background and temperature if less than 20°C.
